Recent activity
On November 22nd EGHRIN organised together with the Amsterdam Institute for Global Health and Development (AIGHD) and ISGlobal a plenary session in the European Congress on Tropical Medicine and International Health (ECTMIH) taking place in Utrecht. The session, titled “The new EU Global Health Strategy: implications for research” was chaired by Dr Antoni Plasencia (ISGlobal) and Professor Anna Vassall (AIGHD) and included a keynote speech by European Commission’s Dr. Jan Paehler. A panel discussion followed with Lisa Goerlitz from Deutsche Stiftung Weltbevoelkerung, Dr Constance Assohou-Luty from the World Health Organization African Regional Office, Dr. Irene Agyepong from the Public Health Faculty, Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons and Dr. Kerstin Klipstein-Grobusch from the University Medical Center Utrecht. More information is in the dedicated article.
EGHRIN has continued its engagement with EDCTP and followed the process leading to the publication of the 2024 Work Programme thanks to one of our Board members participation in its Stakeholder Group on behalf of the network.
Currently, there are up to four academic papers related to EGHRIN activities coordinated by member institutes in different stages of submission which will be notified when published.
What's coming up?
2024 will be the year when the Advisory Board on Equality Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) will be constituted, building up on the work of the EDI Working Group of EGHRIN’s Executive Committee. This process will run parallel to the second EGHRIN Seminar on ‘Decolonising curricula’ offered by the University College London. As the European Commission has launched a public consultation on the review of the European Health Emergency Preparedness and Response Authority (HERA), the Secretariat will circulate a proposal for your consideration. The Executive Committee is also looking at possible forums to build up on the experience and topic (the implementation of the EU Global Health) from the ECTMIH2023. If your institute is organising any forum where this topic could fit please contact the Secretariat. We are always happy to give visibility to member institutes’ activities. In our next General Assembly, scheduled for May 30th, there will also be elections to renew the Executive Committee.

Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal) - University of Barcelona, Spain
The Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal) is the fruit of an innovative alliance between the “la Caixa” Foundation”, academic institutions and government bodies to contribute to the efforts undertaken by the international community to address the challenges in global health. ISGlobal is a consolidated hub of excellence in research that has grown out of work first started in the world of health care by the Hospital Clínic and the Parc de Salut MAR and in the academic sphere by the University of Barcelona and Pompeu Fabra University. Its ultimate goal is to help close the gaps in health disparities between and within different regions of the world. It has several education programmes and two wide areas of research focus: infectious diseases and non-communicable diseases & environment. Current Executive Committee Chair, Antoni Plasència, was ISGlobal’s Director-General until this month when Quique Bassat succeeded him.
