On 30 July 2019, the European Commission published an outline of its plan for the novel EU-Africa Global Health Partnership.
“This initiative aims to increase health security in sub-Saharan Africa and Europe, building on the current partnership between the EU, its Member States and sub-Saharan countries.” says Michael Makanga, EDCTP’s Executive Director in a newsletter.
“It will speed up the development of effective, safe, accessible and affordable health technologies and health system interventions for infectious diseases, together with African partners and international funders.”
The European Commission would like to hear views from relevant stakeholders, which will be published on the website of the Commission.
EGHRIN,as well as several of it’s members will provide a vision to the Commission the next EDCTP program. This is addition to our position paper on EDCTP, which was published earlier this year.
EGHRIN will also endorse a position paper written by DSW, an international development organization which much like EGHRIN focuses on advocacy for global health matters.
We encourage our members as well as other stakeholders – in Europe, Africa and elsewhere – to take this early opportunity to give your feedback on this initiative which will be developed into the successor programme to EDCTP2. The deadline is 27 August 2019 (midnight Brussels time) .
